Why is my screen doing this?

I just replaced my logic board due to water damage and this is what it looks like when i boot up

Hook it up to an external monitor to help isolate the problem. let us know your findings.

UPDATE

Now that you have done the external monitor test, we know the problem is with the display. First tell us if the machine has been dropped or received liquid damage. Next I want you to reseat the LDVS cable that attaches to the logic board then let us know your results, It is step#15 of this guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Display Replacement

when i plug into external i get a background screen but not able to login - you can view the pic above

Did you try restarting your system or booting into safe mode by pressing and holding the Shift key while it boots. You can stop holding the Shift key when you see an Apple logo and progress bar.

i cannot see the apple logo or progress bar when booting. holding shift didn't do anything

that worked to allow me to use the external screen. but why is the laptop screen like that. i took it to a pc shop a while back and they told me i needed a new logic board i just replaced it myself and the screen is still messed up. any ideas on how to troubleshoot
