What is the best hard drive upgrade?

My hard drive has been failing. I am looking for the best quality hard drive for my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) looking to spend around $100-$200. I am looking for a hard drive to speed up the computer and work efficiently. Seagate I hear is a horrible brand so if you can recommend something else please and thank you!

Bianca, this model has a known issue of the hard drive/IR cable failing. It gets damaged in a couple of ways and Apple will replace it for free. If it happens, it starts with you getting a lot of beach balls and starts damaging your data. It can damage the data to the point that it appears the hard drive has failed. Just replacing the hard drive will only solve the issue for a short while.

Please tell us what has happens and the progression of it.

Since you have a budget of that amount, may I suggest an SSD.

They are flash storage so they are WAY faster than a hard drive and last basically forever.

I would suggest this one. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX300-525...

You will also need something like this to clone your old harddrive on to the new ssd. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SATA-Dri...

You can then follow this guide on how to do it.

The usb enclosure is that usb to sata adapter i put above.

Then here is the guide on how to open your macbook up to replace the drive.
