iMac 2008 - Won't Start / PSU issues?

My iMac 24" 2008 won't start!

When my display goes off the computer turns off and so the diagnostic LED. This also happens when I shut down, and after that the 4 diagnostic LED go off as well, so I assume it's a PSU issue.

Altough I can make it start by doing this:

- Pull out the RAM (This will make my fans run)

- Wait around 30 min, or until the computer gets very warm.

- Hold the power button until it beeps

Do you think it's either PSU issue or Motherboard?

Thanks in advance

@maxfloreshn what do you mean by this "Wait around 30 min, or until the computer gets very warm."? If that happens you can start your computer? Where does it warm up?

The status of your diagnostics lights is unclear. Are you getting #1 when it is cold. Your diagnostic methods are rather unorthodox and really don't tell us much.

@oldturkey03 Exactly, I am not quite sure whether the PSU or the motherboard makes the computer work after making the fans run for some time, but that's the only way I can make it start.

@mayer I know it's unclear. After it shuts down by itself (Or sometimes after send it to sleep or restart), all LED go off. In order to get back #1 I have to unplug/plug again.

You have a a bad power power supply with interment failure. Either try to identify the bad caps and replace them or drop in a new power supply.

Thank you @mayer That's what I thought. I'll replace that old PSU and let you know if everything goes well with a new one.
