MacBook Pro Retina 2013 - does not hold charge, works when plugged in

Hi There,

So this issue is about a year old. I spilled coffee on my laptop last year right by the magsafe port and it ran down from there to the other wide and towards the trackpad. It sizzled a bit and then shut down. I cleaned it off and then it worked again when it was plugged in.

It now only works when plugged into a wall charger, if i take the cord out it shuts down (just turns right off no actual shutdown process).

Im looking to try and fix it and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what the main issue would be or guides to reference when fixing it.

thank you

While unplugged, disconnect the battery and check the connections. I'm unfamiliar with macbooks but I do understand laptops and electronics.

Make sure the connections are all clean. If not, use small amount of alcohol on a qtip to clean connections (still unplugged).

Reconnect battery once all is cleaned and dry and see if it will charge then.

If problem still persists, you may need to replace the batter all together.
