To answer your question, that cable is for keyboard backlight. This being burnt cannot short any important power lines to ground which are required for boot.

The 2015 model should boot by itself when the charger is plugged in, only if the battery is plugged in too. Also note the fan does not spin on this model, it only spins when it gets hot.

If the CPU is not getting hot (indicating it is booting), remove and check the bottom of the logic board for liquid damage, clean where necessary with 95%+ isopropyl. Take a picture of where the damage is too, in case any soldered components need to be replaced (so you know where the damage is).

If it is still not booting after cleaning, and you have not got experience or tools to microsolder, send it to a repair shop who carries out logic board repairs.

Before powering (disconnect the battery first) I would clean up the damaged logic board connector so you don't make things worse.

Yes, clean the damaged connector and don't plug the cable back in. The keyboard backlight and connector on logic board will need to be changed and it will most likely need a wire or 2 due to damaged solder pads too

by

Won't the cable not being plugged in throw an error code.

by

I would live without it if this is the only damage. I would cut off the back light connector, clean the board connector, clean all other traces of corrosion including the LCD connector, and leave it as is if it works. "IF." Also try to boot with keyboard and trackpad cables disconnected. See if anything shows up on the screen.

@walkeryoung it won't cause any issues with normal functionality, the keyboard backlight just won't work.

@rany exactly, it is not completely necessary, and is not the most important thing to resolve at this point (need to find out why there is no boot). However, after it is working, it is something which can be fixed if this functionality is important to them.
