The phone has been hard reset but i forgot the recovery password. I don't care about lost data bought phone earlier today and somehow whilst trying to wipe and reset it i ended up now needing a recovery 6 digit password. How can i fix this.

There is no way to get back recovery code.
If you don't care about the losing data, you can restore your iPhone by 3uTools.

That's probably a 6 digit apple id two factor authentication verification code which should either be obtainable via a linked Phone number to the apple id via text message, another device signed into the same apple id providing a notification saying the apple id verification code or the email address sent email verification code to that email.
Personally I hate how apple made their two factor authentication security for apple ID.
Google's implementation is far simpler and easier to use and way easier to recover.
