Won't turn on after crash. Black yellow residue inside phone

The phone had a cracked screen and a little while after the phone just shut off. Opened the phone to see a bit of a residue on the shield plate and battery. Just to double check that it could be the battery?

Hey guys so I just replaced the battery on this phone. However it seems it won't turn on. The computer won't reconize the phone either. Could it be the lighting connector?

So do you think replacing the battery could fix this? I mean just trying my best to try and fix this phone for a friend.

Options

Added image. Those are signs of liquid damage / corrosion on the phone. I could be wrong though because that can also be caused by punctured battery gas leakage.
