iPhone 6 shows 4G but no cellular data

I've got an iPhone 6 that shows 4G up top but will not connect to cellular data. Phone calls can be made, but cannot access the internet. If connected to wifi, internet can be accessed.

Background info:

Screen replacement previously done on this phone. Phone has been working fine for few months. This issue occurred right around the same time that plan was changed with ATT. The phone used to show LTE but now shows 4G up top. AT&T says it is nothing on their end.

Any ideas??

I had this problem too and tried to reset the network settings, unfortunately that did not help. When I tried finding the network status I stumbled upon my vpn configuration trying to connect. When I turned it off my internet connection worked again. So that might be worth looking into too.

Same problem, same cause and fix!

Thank you so much for the initial question and the solution. After so many attempts at trying to figure out the multitude of possibilities of what the issue was, turning off my VPN was the problem!! Thank you!!

For reference: I have an iPhone XR, Mint phone service, Express VPN

Sounds like a provisioning problem. Go to Settings > General > Reset > tap "Reset Network Settings". The phone will automatically restart. Let me know if this solves your issue.

Unfortunately that did not work. Any other ideas?

What does it say on Settings > General > Network Status? Hopefully not 'Phone not allowed.' Have you tried another sim card to test cellular data from sim?

by

I'm fairly certain it's the SIM card then. If AT&T is confident they have entered the correct information ,and resetting network settings did not work... Try a different SIM card or purchase a new one.

by

Ben, I do not show a "network status" under settings > general

by

Christopher, SIM has been replaced by ATT since problem started to occur.

I recently had a trip to Japan for which I switched my sims so I didn't get charged for using my phone abroad. When I returned to the US, I switched my sims back and I started to have this issue. While I was troubleshooting with the general settings I noticed that the Japanese sim had created a configuration profile for me. Once I deleted it everything went back to normal.

Its missing on my phone now, but it should be under: Settings>General>Configuration Profile>Delete Profile

Other Instructions to delete configuration profile from apple are in the link below:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205347

Hope this helps!

I have had the exact problem until now. I just returned from Israel in which I replaced the sim card with a local carrier and automatically it created its own profile. I removed the profile per Michael's advise and sure enough, problem solved. Thanks a lot for the information.

I just had a similar issue with my iPhone 6, searching and no service most of the time and if I get a signal eventually it only shows 3G (it should be 4G) and there is no data coming trough (works fine on WiFi). What I did is I replaced QFE1100 (the signal power ic) which was corroded due to water damage and now my phone works fine, I have 4G and I have SIM data. Hope this helps someone :)

It ended up being that ATT did not have the IMEI on their end correct. Doh!

I m also facing similar- ditto issue, my phone works only when i switch off and re switch on again. As i notice, this mainly happens when I connect to one WIFI ...when I come out od wifi there are no more wifi signals and mobile data fails to pick up.

Plus, my wifi mobile data switches ON itself automatically.

this might be another Apple upgrade issue.

Pl help. My network says no error on their behalf. Plus my sim a'int old enough.

I dunno.

I also have a similar problem. I can see the LTE sign on top, but i have no internet. However, the only app that can access the internet, is the safari. My phone works fine with WiFi. This problem started very sudden. I have tried reseting the device. I have also reseted the network settings. But still the same problem. Any suggestions?

What a great advise to remove the extra profile that will definitely solved your network issue. Thx

I’m having the same problem with my iOS 12 developer bets on Verizon iPhone X running simple mobile!!!!

Shows Lte still nothing.

Checking IMEI shows clean,settings/general/about phone shows the phone active and allowed so I don’t think it’s anything other than either A. Software problem B. Network problem meaning on the carrier end.

I will repost results ASAP.

Hi guys, I have similar problem. My cellular data works for some time and then randomly stops working for a few minutes. Then it works again. The signal is shown as normal and calling works normally. It’s just that the internet has speed of 0 mbit/s, nothing loads. My iPhone is 6s Plus.

I thought it’s the operator, but I experienced the same thing abroad with another SIM card. I tried reinstalling iOS and resetting network settings.

Is there something I can do?
