mower dies when park brake released

why does my Lawn Mower Craftsman ZT7000 die when park brake is released

C Musselman the usual cause for that is a failed seat switch. you can test the switch with either a multimeter or by placing a temporary jumper on it. This is an important safety feature and applying a jumper should only be done for diagnostics.

the seat switch is part number 11 in the diagram

I pulled the safety seat cable and put a jumper wire across the contacts, but it still shuts down when I release the parking brake.

Was right there with ya, checked all the switches etc... but turns out the spark plug boot was split and the spark was occasionally jumping to the engine sending current through the ground throwing off all the switches... taped it up and it runs fine now...

i have a poulan pro i have replaced seat switch and brake switch with new and i still can keep my mower run when i take my foot off brake
