After replacing battery in my iPad Mini, how to restore or update?

I just finished replacing the battery in my iPad Mini following the IFIXIT guide and video. Now, when restarting the device, I get a pop up error window asking if I wish to restore or update the software. However, it is not possible to do either. What can be done?
