The sound is gone can't figure out how to get it back

First try headphones. If there is sound, likely the speaker, speaker connection, or logic board has issues.
If there is no sound on the headphone,
Reboot your tablet into recovery mode, as follows:
• Hold 'vol down' and 'power' buttons on tablet
• Release 'power' when samsung image is shown
• Release 'vol down' when the two icons are shown
• Use the 'vol down' to navigate between the icons
• Highlight the left icon (box)
• Press the 'vol up' to select it and boot into recovery mode
In Recovery mode, 'vol up' and 'vol down' move up and down in the menu, and 'power' button selects.
First try the 'wipe cache partition' and reboot.
If this doesn't help, follow the instructions above then use the 'factory reset' option instead. (REMEMBER TO BACK UP FIRST!!!)
If this doesn't help, there likely is a problem with your logic board.

S W.... thank you so much for answering my question about my sound couple things one it's an RCA not a Samsung so is it still going to work the same into how do I back it up
Androids all have a similar 'Recovery Mode'. Backing it up either can be done in Settings-->Backup&Reset and you can backup critical data to Google, or if RCA has a PC utility to backup to a PC, you can use that. I would manually connect to a pc and copy photos and other critical files over to a PC by drag and drop for anything important just in case.
Most helpful, I have another issue; already tried, the ones recommended. need to know how much it’ii cost to repair.
