Nook does not have zedge and rebooting unplugged does not work either. It looks like the android os for nook has been replaced by android webview. I have two of these devices so I can compare differences. I often leave one nook, with problem, on as I use the clock alarm. I have no idea when this started but its sometime this year. Help, this optimizing take a lot of time.

After the tablet/phone eventually boots - look at the Battery setting and find the app that using the most battery in the last startup. This is most likely your problem. Trying uninstalling that app and restart.

Found this on another forum and it was MyFitnessPal that was causing the issue and it was listed as using 100% battery in the Battery list after the tablet finally booted from Optimizing app 1 of 1.

by

Thank You Andrea. This got it. I tried cache wipe recovery mode..nope. I don't have true caller but I had a "Generic Toggle Widget" that has some similar functions to True Caller, Uninstalled that. No Luck there either. Read your comment and checked the battery setting. Utorrent app was eating 99% of battery last startup. Uninstalled it, restarted. Bingo! So glad I kept researching before doing factory reset. This is the one folks!

Reboot your tablet into recovery mode, as follows:

• Hold 'vol down' and 'power' buttons on tablet

• Release 'power' when samsung image is shown

• Release 'vol down' when the two icons are shown

• Use the 'vol down' to navigate between the icons

• Highlight the left icon (box)

• Press the 'vol up' to select it and boot into recovery mode

In Recovery mode, 'vol up' and 'vol down' move up and down in the menu, and 'power' button selects.

First try the 'wipe cache partition' and reboot.

If this doesn't help, follow the instructions above then use the 'factory reset' option instead.

I had the same problem for approx. 4 days and all I did was not turning off my phone because it had irritated me so much. But now I can finally share that my phone has gone back to normal. I dont know the exact reason why, but I suspect that the Android Webview System had something to do with it because today there was an update of the app and I restarted the phone after updating and now its alright.

I have been struggling with this for the last couple of days, finally found the culprit after removing all of the suggested apps on this board to no avail. For me it was MYFITNESS PAL. Restarted with no delay, even tried to install it again to test it and it took 20 minutes to install from the play store. Immediately deleted it as it was the obvious problem. I'm running Android 6.01 on an S6 if anyone cares to compare.

Went to Battery and identified the app which had used largest percentage of battery just after starting up even though it was not running in background...was BitTorrent in my case...removed it...and problem was solved...

'optimizing apps 1 of 1' started after I updated 24 apps from play store...so it was difficult for me to find which one was causing the problem... When the phone started after 'optimizing apps 1 of 1'...I directly went to settings>>battery and saw the app with largest battery usage and uninstalled it(That app was not even running in background then too it had used 30% of my battery...I inferred that it had used my battery during optimization)...I restarted and problem was solved...phone started normally then...This means that whatever app causes the problem...it starts during the startup process during optimization and uses battery...so you can easily identify that app just after the phone starts by checking it in settings>>battery...

This works if the number of apps which optimize during startup are very less like 1 or 2...and they are usually the ones which you have updated recently from play store...but if many apps start optimizing during startup like 43 or 68 then problem may be little different and this method will not work in that case...

I was stuck with 2 apps that were causing the problem. I uninstalled Zedge which was one of the apps. After rebooting and waiting for the other one to optimize I went directly to Settings/Battery and there I saw the only app that had taken up battery during the boot was on of my favorite apps Relax Melodies. I uninstalled that and then rebooted again. My phone boots normal now. I believe Relax Melodies had an update recently which may have been a contributing factor.

Uninstalling "truecaller" did the trick with my LG G4. So to conclude, there will be some app which might be causing this so try uninstalling a few from the list below and it should work fine:

1. Zedge

2. True Caller

Or some other app which might be doing this so you will have to try removing a few app and see which one is causing trouble.

Android users having problems with phone try uninstalling the SKY SPORTS FOOTBALL SCORE CENTRE app. My phone was acting strange. Random reboots and each time the sky shortcut disappeared. I ended up factory resetting my phone. Then after a reboot I found it took ages and was optimising app 4/4 for half an hour until it booted. I read about a couple of other apps causing this which I don't have. Also I read about certain apps taking ages to install. Sky sports was one of these about ten mins to install. So I uninstalled it and hey presto by phone is back up and running great. Boots straight away! If only I knew this before I reset it however other apps have installed better pi music player has the skip track function on lock screen now.

There is nothing you can do. You have to hold power and arrow up button till a list of options come up select factory data reset then your phone will restart set up your phone like you would if you just bought the phone and put your Google play store Gmail n password and you should get pics videos n contacts back then uninstall Zedge and it won't happen anymore. I worked for Verizon for 6 years and now att for a year and there is nothing you can do that works but what I said.

Same issue I was facing in my phone. I tried all the solutions provied in the internet blogs. In my scenario the error message was 'Anroid is starting and optimising apps 1 of 1. Then I spoted on 'Truecaller' app. This app use to restart many times in a hour. So, I deleted it and cleared cache once. Then I rebooted the phone. My problem was solved. I rebooted many times and tested it again and again. Issue solved. In your scenario, it could be '1 of n' when 'n' is a number. So, in your phone there could be more apps which restart in intervals. You have to find it out. Cheers!

Mine did it for the first time, well I got much worried at it and googled. Found this site and thought perhaps it is because of Truecaller coz I updated just today. Rebooted phone several time but the same screen appeared. Well at last I left the phone on the same screen and kept reading the answers here. Probably after 10 minutes the screen disappeared and my phone was working fine. I assume there are (is) some app (s) taking too long to load due to which the screen keep saying optimizing 1 of 2 apps etc. So I suggest you to wait for some time and let it take awhile.

Uninstall an app through the Play store, then immediately reinstall it, if it takes 15 minutes to install it's the problem. It will be a tedious guess and check solution but it was what worked for me. Start with the apps that updated or installed around the time the problem started.

by

Thank you. But I've now run into a bigger problem. The phone now shuts itself off. Then reboots and shows the "optimizing app message" again, and when the home screen should pop up the screen starts to glitch and shuts off but the phone remains on because it vibrated from missed messages. But when you press any button to wake the screen it keeps glitching. If I can ever get past this I'll be sure to try your method. But otherwise I have no idea what to do..

DO NOT PULL YOUR BATTERY OR SHUT DOWN YOUR PHONE!

It takes about 15 minutes for it to do whatever it's doing. It may take some phones less time and others more. Leave it alone and it will eventually boot up. Shutting it down may (or may not) brick your phone.

I had the same issue with my ZTE ZMAx Pro. I eventually just let it work it self out (it took approximately 15-20mins to do so..sheesh!) I also noticed that this issue appeared after having the issue of "Stock Android is not operating" or something to that affect. I end up having to factory reset it (FTM) by holding the Vol Up + Power button.

At this point, I feel, ALL phone manufacturers and software producers s*ck! Although, ZTE is very affordable, I have lost faith in it, being I had two(2) ZTE's go bad within 24 hours of each other (one was brand new!)! Samsung or Apple seem to be leaders-of-the-(rat)pack! -Good Luck!

I took it as a type of virus and realized the problem might be connected to a recently installed (bad) app.

1) So I uninstalled the apps i had installed right before the problem started, making sure I unticked their permissions and force stopped before clicking on uninstall.

2)I also uninstalled utorrent (force stopped and took away permissions before uninstalling), Orbot and Orfox and a few ghost camera apps.

3) Next I cleaned all junk files with DU Speed which also cleans junk files from SD cards. And cleaned more junk files with Max Cleaner ( there's always more junk).

4) I clicked on Clean Virus in Max Cleaner app and it found a threat right away said "you are in danger"

(lol), and Max Cleaner (green and white icon with swiffer mop) automatically took it away.

5) Lastly, I went to phone settings and clicked "Storage" and cleaned hidden junk cashes in local phone & SD card and Reboot (you may not have to do this if you haven't encrypted your phone but check it anyway; if there are more than 2.00 megabytes click clean and ok).

The problem was gone!

I have also freed my pc from Ransomeware in less than 1 hour.

Everyone got excited about Zedge doing this, but that isn't always the case. To find out which app is causing this, first charge your phone to 100%. Second, unplug and then restart your phone and it go they the optimize app. After the phone finally restarts, go into settings and then battery and check the battery usage since the last full charge. Normally display would be your largest battery user, but the problem app(s) that was optimizing is going to be at the to be at the top of the list. Just remove the offending ago and restart. That'll do it.
