iPod touch 4th gen 'overheating' after I replaced some parts

I have replaced the screen and battery plus other stuff and this iPod will not stay on for more than a min or few, it just overheats and shuts off. It does get past the apple logo.

What should I do? What is causing this? What do i need to do/replace to get it working again?

I would go back step by step and change just one thing at a time to see what causes the issue. I would also carefully inspect the soldering for the battery, you may have a partial bridge that is causing excessive current draw and hence, heat.
