Wi-Fi problem: disabled - no hardware - enabled

Hello guys,

I booted up my MacBook Pro as normal and found out my Wi-Fi was turned off. I tried to turn it on but I couldn't. I Googled several software solutions for this problem and none of them worked (power on and off, reset SMC & NVRAM, delete files in preference files in library etc.)

Later Mac OS X started to mention that the Wi-Fi hardware is not connected. Then I thought this might be a hardware issue, because:

- Sometimes my Wi-Fi works and sometimes it doesn't.

- When I opened up the MacBook Pro and reconnected all the cables between the motherboard and the iSight/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi card it sometimes started working again (I tried it multiple times).

- When my Wi-Fi was in fact working it dropped as soon as I hit my laptop on the keyboard with my fist.

Bluetooth never had any problems though. Is it possible that the Bluetooth/Airport cable has separate pathways for Bluetooth and Airport and that only the Airport pathway is broken? Is this possible?

I am thinking that the Bluetooth/Airport cable (the black flat one) is broken.

What do you guys think?

Cheers.

Ezra

I would start off with the easiest (and cheapest) to replace which is the Airport and Bluetooth Flex Cable - Apple P/N 922-9750. Otherwise, your Airport board has a problem, while rare it can fail.
