@jleidhold ,James, First check the charger/adapter and see if it has cooling vents that you may be able to clean/blow out dust or vacuum and then with the charger sitting on hard surface or slightly raised to help in cooling try adapter again. You could also take the laptop apart and inspect and clean it of dust, etc. and inspect components for being loose or burnt(1st link) tells how to disassemble) If still getting very hot, consider replacing charger as faulty, 2nd link below is replacement charger if needed which you can also do a search for better pricing perhaps. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hello, the more your laptop is used the more the adapter will become hot to the touch, generally speaking. An AC adapter being warm is quite normal - however if it becomes hot enough to harm your hand after touching it, there is a problem. There could be something wrong with either the laptop or the adapter. If you are still able to charge your laptop while the adapter overheats, then the issue is probably with the adapter. However, if there is no charge running through to the laptop, then the issue is most likely in the power connection in the adapter and the laptop. Check the adapter and the adapter cords for any damage, particularly the end of the adapter cord which connects to the laptop. If any damage is found, replace the adapter and/or have the laptop repaired. If the adapter becomes hot very quickly after plugging it in, then you need to have a computer repair shop take a look, because it is a danger to use.
