If your iPhone is frozen in any way, there are two things you can try to fix your frozen phone. The first one is the basic, and easiest solution. Just like @pccheese said, you hold the "power button and home button" until your device powers off. You then release both the buttons and power on again with power button. You can also hold the "power button and home button" for up to 30 seconds or until the device powers off and power on, you wait until you see the Apple logo again, then release all buttons.

The second and hardest one (but not that difficult) is you remove the screen and physically disconnect the battery from the board and reconnect. Either one of these is a good solution to reset a frozen iPhone.

Simple. Hold down the power button+home button until it shuts down, then release. Power your phone back on by pressing and holding the power button.

Hope this helps.

I thought holding the home button was required too?

Err... I don't know... I didn't use Apple long enough. I'll revise my question. I just assumed the iPhone was like every other device as far as restarting.
