Sorry I was not able to respond to your comment earlier.

I am rather handy, autos, a dryer motor, etc. Perhaps the first issue would be about proper diagnosis and whether the effort/expense would be justified for a 12+ year old appliance? Your opinion about the problem and wisdom of addressing it would be most appreciated.

Thanks again,

Thank you everyone who offered assistance, I easily found parts and instructions. The end of the story is that after reading that this washer is only good for 10 years and there are up to 15 parts that could be involved, I broke down and bought a new one. The installer said the new one is only good for about 5 years. I immediately felt I made a mistake but it was too late. The new one already broke and we are waiting for a service call. Sorry for the delay but I have been quite busy which is part for the decision not to put the time into repairs.

Thanks again to everyone, I look forward to be of assistance to others at this site.

Al, we have a 25 year old washer that we keep fixing because the repairmen all say it is the best one ever made and that the new ones are all junk. Sorry that happened to you.

Chosen Solution

@alr , Al Russ , could be a cheap repair if caused by worn support pads, quite common and said to be almost always the cause at link 1st below. Other links also informative and may aid in diagnosing your washers issue. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
