The Xbox One Wireless Controller model 1697 was released in 2015 and replaced the model 1537 controller and fixed some of the problems found on Model 1537 controllers. The Model 1697 controller includes an integrated 3.5mm headset jack, which allows compatibility with most 3rd party headsets without the need of an adapter. This controller has been discontinued and replaced by the Model 1708 controller.

Are you using the controller on a console or PC?

You don't need an adapter. Since it is the next gen controller. What are the mics that you are trying?

Guys the leads on the microphones are different. Put it this way, one section is left, one section is right, one section is ground, one section is the Mic. Apple headphones are ordered differently than xbox one head phone. Essentially xbox is a bunch of @%^$$@$#

Your answer doesn't make any sense. Of course Apple headphones are ordered differently. DO YOU NOT HERE YOURSELF? Headphones and mics are NOT the same. Xbox isn't a bunch of what ever you said. Try to be helpful and not insulting to the person asking the question. And Xbox does not suck. That is not a bias opinion either. It's a fact. I have a Xbox 1, PS 4, PC, and Retina.
