2G & Wifi Works but 3G doesn't

My phone was ran over and the screen was cracked. I bought a replacement LCD assembly and the phone is working again except if I turn on 3G I get "No Service". I get great signal with 2G however, and Wifi still works. I recently purchased the dock assembly hoping to fix the 3G antenna but it still doesn't work.

Also, my phone will lose reception and drop calls quite often. Sometimes it restarts itself randomly and will say that I need to restore it with iTunes.

Which part should I try replacing next?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Did you try to hard reset your phone for this problem?

1. Hold and press Power and Home button simultaneously till slide to power off appears. Continue to hold both.

2. Release Power button alone IMMEDIATELY when phone switches off (still press and hold Home button)

3. Now press and hold power button again (still holding Home button)

4. Press and hold power and home button till apple logo appears and reboots twice.

5. Release power button after apple logo appeared twice and phone got rebooted. (still hold home button)

6. Now Press and hold power button and release power button once apple logo appears (continue holding Home button)

7. Now just keep on holding the home button till the iphone comes up (it will be back in normal mode)

Just came across this little piece of software. Do not know anything about but looks promising. http://jaxov.com/2010/05/recboot-iphone-...

Not saying that this will resolve your issue but it is a start. Did you jailbreak your phone? Any recent updates etc.?

Here is another discussion about that http://discussions.apple.com/message.jsp...

Let us know how you are progressing and what is working for you. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately I tried it and it still doesn't work.

Phone is not jailbroken, has latest updates.

Any other ideas? Is the 3G antenna a part of the dock assembly? Does the antenna need to touch the outer bezel at all?

I believe that the antenna is glued to the underside of the dock assembly....pin connector comes up through the dock assembly and "touches" the mainboard to make connection. This is what it looks like and not expensive http://www.directfix.com/product/IP-2332...

connects to the bottom side of the loudspeaker in the lower part of the iPhone 3G. The entire lower dock assembly includes the antenna flex and makes for a much easier repair is available here http://www.ubreakifix.com/iphone-3gs-com... hope this helps a little bit more...good luck
