Hi,

Here is a link to the service manual for your laptop.

Scroll to p.60 to view the necessary pre-requisites and then the procedure to remove the Optical drive.

Here is a link to just one supplier of a HDD caddy used to insert the HDD / SSD into the optical drive bay. It is not a recommendation to use the seller, it is shown to give you an idea of the price of the part. There are other sellers online that may suit you better.

If you wish to retain the optical drive an alternative solution that you may wish to consider, is to purchase the largest capacity SD Card that you can afford and leave it inserted in the laptop's card reader port and use it as the laptop's storage drive

The advantages of this are:

That you can replace the existing HDD with an SSD, to increase the performance of the laptop. (If you haven't already got a SSD installed as the primary drive)

The SD Card's data transfer rate is just as fast if not faster than a HDD. (Installing a SSD into the caddy will not improve performance due to the limitations imposed by the optical drive's motherboard connection)

Retain the DVD drive

The SD Card is unobtrusive and can easily be removed for security purposes.

The SD Card can easily be inserted into another computer to backup your data.

(although the last two 'advantages' may be considered a downside).

The disadvantage of doing this:

You will lose the ability to use the card reader port anytime you want to insert another card. You will have to remove the SD Card first etc. It depends on how often you think that you will use it.

Hopefully this is of some help.
