TouchID Screen Flex Cable Replacement - Replace shield tape?

I have damaged the flex cable that runs from the home button, up behind the shielding plate to the top of the screen.

I've seen online that to replace this cable you have to remove the shielding plate, and peel back some tape to access the cable.

Does this tape need to be replaced when it's been peeled or can you re use the same tape?

You can use the same tape, if it's intact. There've been times I didn't put any tape back. Or you could put Kapton tape there. That would do the trick

I end up just buying cable with Metal backplate preassembled to avoid any hassle.

Depends on the situation. Maybe I have the back plate, with bad cable
