My LG TV 42PA4500 turned itself off one day and won't go back on. No clue what's wrong with it. It was less than 5 years old at the time of the incident. Really don't want to contribute to landfill. Anything we can try! LG weren't particularly helpful.

Does the TV's power light come on when you connect the power and switch on?
If so does it come on steady or blink, and if it blinks is there a pattern to the blinks, e.g. 2 blinks - pause - 2 blinks - pause etc?
If no light at all try a power reset.
Switch off the TV.
Switch off the wall outlet.
Remove the TV's power cord from the wall outlet.
Press and hold the TV's Power button for 30 seconds and then release the button. (This action drains all the residual power from the TV, hopefully resetting it).
Reconnect the TV's power cord to the wall outlet and switch on the wall outlet.
Switch on the TV and see what happens.
If it still doesn't turn on, (was there a blackout or storm before this problem occurred?) remove the back cover off the TV (disconnect the power first) and check the Power board (the one where the power cord connections go to) for leaky or bulging capacitors or heat stressed components. If in doubt regarding any component take some close up pictures and post back here and somebody is sure to help you further. Adding images to an existing question.

I agree that there is no obviously visible problems with the boards.
Just double checking that you have proved that the wall outlet is OK and supplying power or if using a powerboard that it is also OK.
If you have a DMM (Digital Multimeter), use its' Ohmmeter function to prove that the fuse on the power board in the TV is OK. Do this with the power totally disconnected from the TV.
If it is OK after that you will have to start checking voltage levels on the power board to verify that they are OK or not.
Be aware that you will be working on "live" equipment. when doing this. If you have no knowledge regarding electronic fault diagnosis, you could try as suggested and replace the power board and see if that solves the problem. Search online using the "board number" printed on the power board itself to find suppliers.
Alternatively contact a reputable, professional TV repair service and ask for a quote to repair the TV

Thanks...no light comes on when I push the on/off button.
Tried the reset, no joy.
No, no storm or black out when it happen.
I don't see any sign of power surge in the circuit boards and have included the photos in the original post.

Thanks @jayeff. Yep, checked the wall sockets and powerboards are functioning :-) I don't have a DMM, though I know of someone who does. I'll ask them to check next they're over. Thanks!

It might be the power broad i would try to replace that or try a new cord (i know that sounds stupid but a lot of people don't try that)

Good idea though no luck. I did see a red light flash on one of the circuit boards through the back using both cords
