Hello @huemaster! Welcome to the ifixit community.

I started by studying spec sheets, reading teardowns and guides, and just figuring stuff out for myself. Ifixit is a great place, and I hope you will find out everything you need. I'm sure @oldturkey03 and @mayer can both leave a good word of advice too!

@huemaster, I forgot to mention something. Any flat ribbon cables you run across, make sure you unlock them before removing and inserting.

Get one and tear it down. Then put it back together.

I would start with a Galaxy S2 to tear down and put back together. Once upon a time, phones used screws not glue.

Oh yeah, @avanteguarde that reminds me of our updated profile page. Check it out. See what you can add.

@huemaster the only way to understand how smartphone hardware works is by actually working with it. Use the iFixit guides to take a look at how the parts interconnect. Then learn to understand what those parts actually do. After that you need to learn how they do it, otherwise you will do nothing but replace parts like screens etc. Not very exciting and rewarding. Learn how to read schematics and how to measure components, learn what to look for. Get as many schematics and layouts as possible. Now go, get started and tear something down.....;-)
