Why wont my xbox one controller charge?

After playing with the controller while plugged in the charging had stopped and now gets no more connection. The Micro USB cable still works, because I tested it to charge my phone. How can I fix the Micro USB port on my controller?

It's definitely the port but I heard you can use 2 AA battery's instead of the rechargeable one
