Screen dim: Is this an LCD display or LCD cable problem?

I recently replaced my LCD on my laptop because it was completely cracked. I ordered a new screen, and it worked for a while but started flickering. Now the backlight has gone out and the screen is dim, but I'm still getting data and I'm able to use a flashlight to see the screen. This leads me to believe it's not an error with the cable, rather an issue with the LCD itself. If I plug in my old screen I get no data (It's just cracked and has colorful lines), but it actually lights up. I'm thinking I'll order another screen, because I'm unsure of what's the problem here and I can't be sure unless I order another screen of an even closer model to test on this.

The new screen sometimes works, but it mainly depends on how I re-seat the LCD. Some people from my college suggested that this could be a pin connection issue between the cable and the screen. I personally can't tell at this point.
