Shutter fires when shutter speed dial is turned

I have a Canon t3i that has some sort of problem with the shutter firing when it shouldn't. Whether I have a lens on or not, the shutter fires whenever I try to change the shutter speed using the main dial on the top of the camera, right behind the shutter release button. I've tried taking out the battery, reset all the settings and updating firmware, but none of this seems to work. Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this? I haven't been able to figure out how to do a factory reset of the camera, I'm thinking that might help but I'm not sure.

Answer this question I have this problem too

@osmith977 , Owen, Below I found what looks to be a guide(1st link) to reset your camera to factory settings. See if there is dust/lint/debri between button and dial causing it to stick and try to pick/vacuum it out. Also posted below is a guide that talks about the various settings and a disassembly guide, which will get you inside camera and check for damage cable/wire/button/dial and replace if needed. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
