Black screen but not completely

Hi guys! I don't know if this case is specific. When I turn on laptop it starts normally but before booting completely it goes black. I repeat it several times (Iafter shutdown with power button) and it works . Sometimes it goes black during the work, sometimes just flickers. But what I noticed today is that when it goes black of I direct mobile phone's light into screen, I can see icons or whatever I was working on during the time it went black. I guess this was answered before but I could not find the answer. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi,

You are losing the backlighting on the screen.

This could be caused by several reasons.

1. Faulty inverter (if you have a separate one in the laptop - you don't state the model number of the laptop)

2. Faulty lid switch (this controls the backlighting either directly - in series with backlight power supply or activates software controls)

3. Faulty backlight power feed cable -either a separate cable from the mobo to the screen or part of the video cable or faulty connections either on the mobo or screen. Press around the hinge area and see if you can make it happen. This is where the cable passes through from the mobo to the screen.

4. Faulty screen backlight (if it has a CCFL tube you may be able to change it).

5. Faulty screen

Hi Jayeff. I have toshba satellite and the screen is from samsung(i changed it few months ago because then it went totally black and I couldnt find an original toshiba screen. When a friend of mine replaced the screen one cable from samsung screen was too much meaning no cable from mobo to connect). I thought maybe laptop was hibernating. is that oossible too. if yes how to fix it.

Otherwise thank you so much for your first answer as well.

Hi @agdian ,

It is the ' .....sometimes just flickers' that concerns me. Going into hibernation etc should not cause this. This sounds more 'hardware' orientated.

Nevertheless change the settings in Control Panel > Power Options (check advanced options as well) so that there is no Hibernation or screen timeout (battery and power) and see what happens.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor and check what happens with that?

Also way out thought but have you tried it in 'safe mode' just to eliminate any driver issue?

Hi again @jayeff,

What I did was, I dismantled the screen area, after your advise no.3 in your first answer. Just was watching a youtube video how to do it. I detached all cables and attached again. It works! The screen is working good so far, no flickering no black.

Thank you so much for you prompt and very professional answer.
