Fresh battery not really fresh

Got fresh iPhone4S battery from iFixit, no big deal to put it in. Although at first it seemed to sustain the unit for a couple days, now it barely lasts a one day, doing the common drop quickly to 20% then prematurely die. Silly thing does a lot of surfing by itself, 'Siri' or other apps inquiring about things in the background, despite all services being off. The decline may have coincided with iOS upgrades, the way Apple tends to ruin everything. Now at 9.3.5. Anybody have any suggestions?

Options

@nonprod, glabs drackchum , Possibly factory/hard reset it and then watch what apps/programs are effecting the power consumption and delete them and do not load them any more.
