02 Jetta VR6, trouble with hot start

My 2002 Jetta GLX VR6 is having an issue starting but only when the engine is warm and I've been driving at least 20 minutes but sometimes I have be be running it a little longer.

Once the engine is hot enough and I shut off the car, it will act like it isn't getting gas and will act like it might stall out (sometimes it does), when I try to restart it (if the engine hasn't cooled enough). It might take me 3 or 4 tries but I always eventually get I started. I turn the ignition and while it's sputtering, I lightly press the gas. It drives without any problems

I had read it could possibly be a solenoid getting too hot (possibly a heat shield got removed during a repair and didn't get put back?). However, I do not recall what part was possibly overheating. I've been to two separate shops and I had the coolant sensor and the radiator cooling fans replaced but I'm still having the same issue.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

Have you had the ODBII port scanned to see if there are any error codes logged?

bwarrior , 2002 Jetta GLX VR6 is having an issue starting, There are quite a few possibilities that can cause this issue,

Fuel pump loosing its prime (fuel pressure regulator),coolant temp sensor faulty or wire/plug, Crank sensor failing, coil pack failing, oxygen sensors failing, dirty thottle body, etc.,etc.. A technician with a scan tool may have to check it out and look at the data like fuel trim values, coolant temp sensor, crank sensor function and even oxygen sensors, etc. You could begin by having the car checked for stored codes. Some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts, etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track. They do not put a scan tool on and read all the live data like more expensive scanners used by good shops/tech's. which it might take to find issue. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
