SD card reader no longer functioning

My Samsung Galaxy S4's SD card reader no longer works. It started by randomly ejecting, so I would just take it out and put it back in. One day it stopped reading altogether. I tried cleaning the SD card, I tried putting in a different SD card, but it still doesn't read. Does anybody have an idea as to why it doesn't read? Could it be a hardware issue? It is rooted, so could that be an issue too?

Sim/SD readers go bad on Galaxy phones. Its not an uncommon issue.

Have you had a look at the actual card reader itself to make sure there's no dirt in there?

Chosen Solution

See this quite a bit.

Open up the back cover. Remove the screws. Then replace the SD/sim reader. Plenty of tutorials. And the part is pretty cheap too.

Obviously male sure everything is clean before buying a new part, although this would be a slim chance of debris build up, as this is behind a sealed cover to begin with.
