Usually if you get a sudden increase in revs before a shift The springs in the valve body are too stiff this is how a shift kit works makes the hit harder between gears so theres no power loss. Is this a recent development or did you just get the truck and notice this . It may actually have a shift kit in it and the previous owner didn't mention it . Its not a bad thing unless it developed this on its own in which case it could be the springs in the valves aren't functioning right . This means something in the fluid is not allowing the valve to compress properly as the fluid passes through the valve body. Check the oil for discoloration and for a burnt smell. You should change the oil if its not pink and or if it smells burnt. do a flush to get the oil out of the torque convertor . a simple dropping of the oil pan and changing of the filter only gets about half the oil . This video show how to flush Hope this helps

dd_gdwn , Check your transmission fluid level as a first step and make sure it is at the appropriate level. There are various sensors that can effect the shifting rpm's on your truck, take a look at the links below(not saying your truck has all). Best to have the truck scanned for diagnostic trouble codes, as this can take a lot of guess work out of the equation and unnecessary parts. Not sure if they all can read Transmissions or not but some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts, etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track. If transmission has not had service in quite a while that may also be something to consider, fluid flush and filter change. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
