Upgrading Mac Pro5,1 Processor and Motherboard - X99

Hi all,

Most of the work I do is in Abobe After Effects and I am looking to upgrade my processor, and therefore motherboard to an X99 chipset.

I have been looking around and have my eye on the i7 6850k and have been considering the MSI X99A Gaming 7 motherboard but I'm not sure if this is all going to fit into the chassis.

Does anyone have any experience in doing this upgrade to an X99 chipset?

Thanks in advance!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Please tell us your exact model and year as the 2008 and earlier have a different upgrade path vs the 2009-2012 machines. There are better options than going the hachintosh route.

It should fit. You will have to heavily mod the case to put it in, it won't work without them. There's this awesome site http://tonymacx86.com/ which is a hackiontoshing and mac modding site. Check it out and look for mac pro mods and check to see if you can put mac osx on your parts of that what you were planning to do with it.
