Is the backlight of a 15" MacBook Pro 3,1 interchangeable with a Macbo

Can I use the backlight from a MBP3,1 to replace one in a MBP4,1?

As you can see the IFIXIT guides we offer cover both of these systems as they are almost exactly alike (click on the laptop's image to the top right to get to the guides).

So to answer your question: Are the backlight display parts interchangeable? Yes

But! Before you start tearing into your system are you sure the backlight within the display is the issue? More often it's the driver board, if not you'll need to replace the complete LCD panel. Can you give us some more clues on what you see or don't see. Pictures can also help.

Here's the general questions I ask when the internal display isn't working:

  • Are you able to see your desktop using a flashlight shining from the back though the Apple logo?
  • Are you able to see the desktop via an external monitor?
  • Did you bang or get the system wet in anyway?
