Battery Replacement, Now Strange Behavior

I replaced my battery in my late 2012 using a battery from ifixit. The install was straight forward and there were no issues. When I booted up it seems like the enter button is being constantly pressed. I uninstalled and reinstalled the battery and the issue was still there. Finally, I installed the old batter and the issue is still there. I don't believe I damaged anything during my install, it really did seem straight forward. Does any one have any ideas on how to resolve this?

I have also tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, but that did not help either. I can use an external keyboard and trackpad with no issues when using an external monitor while the laptop is shut.

Ok, looks like it only sometimes works well with an external keyboard when the laptop is closed. I'm assuming this as something to with the order the laptop is closed and connected to the monitor.

Options

Check around the battery connector to see if you damaged or chipped any components off. Or just check unde the enter key to see if something got stuck under it, like a screw. Clean the board too with compressed air just to be sure.

Thanks Gigabit878, I checked and it doesn't look like anything is damaged or chipped. I also pulled up the enter key and there wasn't anything there. Cleaned the board and didn't help. I appreciate your help, though.

What about the keyboard connector? Did you check that? Also does it stop if you boot up the computer with the keyboard unplugged?

I tried reseating what I think is the keyboard connector last night (the wide connector to the right of the battery connector). It didn't help. I haven't tried leaving it unplugged though. That's a good idea, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I confirmed that what I thought was the keyboard ribbon was really the keyboard ribbon. I unplugged it, but the computer wouldn't even turn on after that.

That's because the power button pins are on the kayboard connector. Keep it unplugged, also unplug the battery. Plug in the charger. It should automatically boot up.

Replacing keyboard is doable, you can purchase a replacement for $30ish, slide the ribbon cable from the new part in to test, if it clears up the issue you can follow the instructions in our video to replace.
