Dead touchscreen, possessed automatic screen

Hi,

So my ipad mini doesn't respond to any actions of mine on the touchscreen, but both buttons work. I tried taking off the protecting screen but it still didn't work. It touched a little water yesterday but it was working just fine the first few minutes. I a tried drying it but it didn't help too. Is there anyway I could fix that? Or should I wait for a while?

After letting it sit for a while, how the upper half of it is responding but not the lower half.

Thanks,

It sounds to me like water seeped around the digitizer connector (or worse, near the IC's for touch functionality.

I would do the following:

  • Open your device (follow this guide)
  • Inspect the logic board, especially around the connectors and look for corrosion.
  • Remove the shield cover on the board. 80% of the board is covered in shields. That's usually where the damage is occurring.
  • Put your board in a container with >90% isopropyl alcohol and let it sit for a while.
  • Use a soft brush, like a toothbrush and lightly brush away any corrosion you see.
  • Rinse in alcohol and repeat.
  • Let it air dry for a day.
  • Re-assemble and hope for the best.

A professional repair shop that does water damage repair may be able to recover your phone or the data because they have access to pro-level ultrasonic baths and specialized cleaners as well as the skills to troubleshoot your board.

thank you, I don't dare try that. Thanks for the answer anyways. Now after about 72 hrs after my device touched water, now half of the screen works as usual.

If the buttons work, try hard booting. Do this by holding the home and lock button until it restarts and you see the apple logo, when you see it, release both buttons. If this doesn't fix it its most likely done and you need a new screen.

Hope this helps and good luck fixing!
