Why does my speaker not work occasionally?

Hi;

I had this issue for a while. My speaker stop playing anything (full volume) and even after repairing it, it still has the same issue. Any ideas why?

Hi

What did you repair?

Do you have audio when using earphones when the speaker doesn't work?

try a factory reset or wipe the cache partition of the phone. If all else fails upgrade the S5 isn't exactly the preferred galaxy model .

@cusucannotushud, I advise you change your comment. The S5 is a perfectly fine phone, and not everyone can afford $700 S7. Just because you don't prefer it doesn't mean one' should upgrade because of a small problem that likely can be fixed.

P.S. It's not the comment, it's the attitude.

Jay: I repaired the speaker using the guides on IFixit. Earbuds do work though.

George: I got that from it's release date. I still love it, that's why I have it. I'm using it until it doesn't work anymore.

Hi @godzilla5123

If the headphones icon is showing when the headphones are not inserted then there is a problem with the headphone socket. It is telling the audio controller that the headphones are in and therefore the audio to the main speaker is turned off.

If there is no icon when the headphones are removed does the phone ring OK on an i/c call? If so that is using the same speaker.

Try clearing the cache of the music app. Not sure of your phone but go to Settings > Apps or App Management swipe right to find All at the top of the page, scroll down to find the Music app tap to enter and then tap Clear Cache and then try the music app. If that doesn't work try the Clear Data option found in the same place.

Hi @godzilla5123

Back up the phone and try a factory restore. If it still doesn't work in the factory default condition you have got a hardware problem.

If it works, restore the phone using the backup and see if it still works now. If it does then the reset fixed it. If not then a downloaded app is the cause. You need to uninstall each downloaded app one by one and test between each uninstall to see if it works. When it does the last one uninstalled was the problem

I was having issues with the speaker on my rca tablet. I could barely hear anything out of it even when turned up all the way. Due to another issue I was having a master reset did not help with the sound. Upon opening up my tablet I found the speaker was covered in dust and metal slivers that were being held there as if magnetized. With a soft dry cloth I gently wiped off the speaker until it was completely clean. The sound now works perfectly again.
