How to disable messages appearing on the display?

I want to disable incoming messages (sms, imessages) to appear on my display before I actually open the phone and go into the messages app.

I have iphone 4, software version 7.1.2

Can somebody advise if it is possible and how?

Go to settings,notification center,scroll down to messages and disable SHOW ON LOCK SCREEN
