Black Screen After Water Damage

Hello,

I have split water over my MBP.

The screen is complete black. I have attached MBP to the external monitor with a cable. It works OK.

But today I have noticed that the black screen is actually working. When I play a movie, I can see the silhouette of moving images. The screen is complete black but if carefully looked I can see the moving images. It is like the screen is dimmed and the screen brightness is 1%.

So what does it mean? Do I need to replace my screen? I thought the screen was dead. But what does those silhouette meaning?

Cheers

It looks as if your backlight may be dead or you shorted the connector for it. When you open your macbook and look near the display connector do you notice any corrosion? If you dont then you probably would need a new screen.

Thats the link to the guide to fix it. It doesnt seem like a super hard process.

Oh thank you very much for your help.

I see. I checked and can not see any corrosion. As you suggested the screen needs to be replaced I suppose.

I have an 2009 MBP 13" too. Can I put out 2009 screen and place into the 2013? Would there be any problem? I just want to make sure the problem is screen related before sending it to technicians.

I will accept your answer soon.

Thanks again

Not sure. you could see if the connectors are the same but i don't think that they are as the 2013 is newer and slimmer then the 2009 but you can give it a shot. Worst that can happen is it doesn't work

yesilwatson , Before replacing parts, you should stop powering on or charging the device, dismantle the laptop and clean/dry the device thoroughly. 1st link is a guide to show how to disassemble and 2nd link is a guide techniques for generalized water damage troubleshooting and recovery. Good luck.
