hey debbie.

as a disclaimer, i have to begin this with the following statement.

Its very important you have experience in repairing laptops for this, as each laptop is assembled differently. if you don't, I suggest hiring a professional to do so for you to avoid unnecessary damage. I would never suggest a non-technician, to open an electronic device.

HOWEVER, that is not why people come to forums. you came here for help in the repair, so i will give you some advice on the process of the repair.

First off, i would suggest opening the device and removing the port, so that you have a visual of the part, to help ensure you order the correct one.

to do this;

1) REMOVE THE BATTERY! All devices should be running zero power before operation

2) remove the casing screws on the bottom that hold any external panels.

3) Remove the panels and take out modular components (RAM, HDD, Wireless card)

4) Remove all addition casing screws, and any screws under the external panels we removed in the prior steps.

5) (VARIES ON LAPTOP) remove the keyboard. if your keyboard has a seam circling it, Remove it by taking a pry tool, (DO NOT USE METAL) to remove the clips along the top and sides of the seam. the keyboard will tilt up towards you. be gentle while handling it, as there is a delicate flex that connects it to the board.

6) Disconnect all flex cables from the motherboard. (Some of these connections dont need to be removed, however, it is better to take a few extra steps, than too few,)

7) find the seam from your Laptop body, and seperate the housing from that seam using a sturdy pry tool (NO METAL TOOLS!) This is where the experience really comes into play. while doing this, be gentle, but firm. you will want to feel for resistances, and if you have to force it too hard there is likely a screw that was missed that you need to remove.

8) once the body is separated, most often, you will have access to the jack, however, some devices require you to remove the mother board, in which case, you will just remove the screws holding it in place, and lift the board from the side which no jacks are fed through the frame.

9) remove the jack.

after these procedures, you can order in your replacement, and follow them in reverse to finish the repair!
