Video attached--startup goes from bad to worse!

Sometimes I get to the login. Sometimes I don't. (Please see attached video).

When I do make it to the login, I type in my password and then it never surpasses that point. Other times... well you can see here, two different versions of the issue.

I'm guessing it's logic board or video card.

I don't have suction cups or I'd tell you what the LED indicator responses are.

Anyone have any ideas? Even though I'm in California, it's more than 7 years old so apple considers it "obsolete."

Thank you for the help.

At this point I would make sure to get a good backup of the internal drive before the system fully dies.

I'm sorry to say your logic board has a problem. The cost of a new logic board (new or used) and the systems inherent limits make this a questionable repair from a value stand point.

I think its time to look at getting a newer system (new or used).

Thank you.

I'm taking it to a local shop. They'll do a full diagnostic free of charge and then let me know the estimate. Sustainability wise, I'm a big fan of using a machine as long as possible. And my experience was that the computer was still quite speedy for most tasks.

It's a shame that Apple marks things as obsolete which are clearly still very functional.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

Sadly, time marches on...

If it does what you need then consider looking for the same model used. I think you'll find it cheaper to swap out the drive & RAM than to replace the logic board.
