How do I check the cable for the display on the PowerBook?

I was wondering if there was a way to check the video cable to a PowerBook.. without ripping the whole computer apart.. 1/3 of the bottom of the screen is going black.. but then works fine.. I saw how to replace the inverter but it is too much to do to check to see if the cable is loose.. any ideas??

If an

external monitor works it's not the VGC and could be the LCD it's self. There's circuitry down the sides, and if part of that is damaged it would act as you describe.
