Engine bolt Tapping vs. Heli coil

Where the lower mounting bolt mounts my starter to engine has stripped threads. Some people say to drill it, tap it, and use a heli coil. I dont know why just tapping the hole and using a bit bigger bolt wouldn't be good enough. Would it be or not be good enough to mount the starter and why?

I assume that they don't suggest a bigger bolt because you might have to alter the starter housing itself, and drill a bigger hole in it to fit the bigger bolt. That could compromise the structural integrity of the starter mounting plate, and lead to it breaking. That is just an assumption though. Others may have a different opinion.

Good answer! Yes, thats the reason.

You don't want to use the wrong sized bolt as the clearance within the mount of the starter would need to be altered weakening the wall and its alignment.
