Battery Drains extremely quick even in standby and airplane

My iPhone 5s is less than a year old and the battery one day started draining incredibly fast even in standby and airplane. I tried to reset the phone and set up as new with no luck. I've tried doing all the "hacks to save battery" such as turning off mail fetch. But the battery still drains very fast. The phone aloso can charge to 100% but is never "fully charged" so I am unable to check the standby and usage times in battery settings. I also have noticed that my phone doesn't charge on car charges at all and charges slow on regular USB wall outlet chargers. I've read about the U2 IC chip causing similar issues but if my phone dies it has no problem charging and booting back up. So don't know if that still could be it. Lastly I do notice the phone gets a little warm sometimes even when it just in standby mode untouched. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: took into a repair shop and tried a battery change. After the battery change my phone wouldn't charge!? So we tried another battery replacement but didn't work so we put the old battery back in and it started charging again? Still no results and stuck carrying a portable charger around still.

First of all. Download and install 3Utools on a computer to check the battery health.

If the battery life is 60% or lower, consider replacing the battery.

It sounds like to me that you need to change out the battery. Where did you purchase the phone? I am asking because if you purchased it second hand, off Ebay as refurbished or even from a carrier it may have a low quality battery in it. These cheap batteries to not contain the "gas gauge" function that allows you to check your usage (you should be able to check it at any percentage). If you are feeling froggy and want to change it yourself there are guides on this website as well as Ifixit videos on youtube on how to replace it. I would also purchase your battery from this website instead of Amazon or Ebay just to ensure you get a OEM quality replacement. One quick way to check and rule out your power management IC as you discussed is to turn your phone off, wait a few seconds and plug the charger in connected to the wall. If the phone boots up without pushing the power button then there is a problem with the IC, if not it is most likely just a dead battery. If you do not want to do it yourself you can take it to a local repair shop or use a mail in service to have it replaced and they can also troubleshoot it to ensure it is not the IC. Let me know if you have anymore questions. We typically do not talk business on here but I do offer a mail in service, you can reach me at this email princetechservices@gmail.com. Hope this helped!

Got the phone brand new from Apple Store. It was a replacement because my old phones battery inflated.

Sounds like u2 Tristar charging ic if phone doesn't switch on from charger or charge when it is off or flat. One of those symptoms point to IC at fault.

by

Jack give a couple of more thing a shot just to troubleshoot it down to the Tristar chip as Ben said. Turn turn the phone off, wait a couple of minutes and the plug your charging cable in (make sure it is plugged into the wall not the portable charger). If the phone boots on its own then that would be a symptom of a bad Tristar chip. If it does not boot that does not mean it is not the Tristar but just a way of checking. Did you try charging it while its off overnight? That is also a sign of a bad Tristar if the phone charges fully while off. The one good thing is it will give you a solid charge that should not drain as fast.

The phone dose boot on its own when plugged in. I'll have to try the overnight charging tonight

by

Ok well then it does look like the Tristar however if you can get a solid charge tonight that will help get you through until you get it fixed or get a new phone.

Try with a new battery, if is not working you have to replaced the u2 ic by micro-soldering where you can send to the repair shop

When the battery is replaced the phone will no longer charge

did you leave for a good hour? they take ages to boot sometimes and maybe the battery you put in is very low?

by

The phone was on and functioning. Just would not charge unless the original battery was in . I know it sounds strange but that what it was.
