Melanie Michael, add more and clearer info., year, make, model, engine, transmission what light or lights are on(list all)? are they on when engine running? have you checked that all fluid levels are good and not leaking. Have you had any recent work done or accidents? With more info. supplied, usual results in better answer. Good luck.

Hi,

Here is an image showing the instrument panel in a 2000 Chev. Cavalier. (you didn't state the year model so hopefully it is the same).

If it is the light as pointed at by the green arrow you need to check the engine oil level.

Stop the car and turn off the engine. Find the engine oil dipstick and remove it wipe it clean with a clean rag, re-insert and then remove to check the oil level against the level indicator markings on the end of the dipstick.

If it is low you need to add some oil. Here are some images that show where to check, where to fill and what oil to use. Do not overfill. Also check underneath the vehicle to see if there is any oil leaking onto the ground. If so you may have to get that attended to as well to prevent engine damage.

If it is the light pointed at by the red arrow you need to check the temperature gauge to see if it is in the normal area when the engine is running. If it is high, with the engine switched off, check the coolant level in the radiator overflow reservoir to ensure it is at the correct level.

If the temperature is OK check the fuel gauge to see if there is still fuel available.

If it is the light point at by the yellow arrow, then there is an electrical problem with the air bag system. I suggest that you get that attended to by a qualified mechanic or the car dealership.

Hopefully this is of some help.
