Sportster keeps cutting off.

It ran good yesterday, no issues. Today while riding, it cut off completely and after setting for a few minutes, it would start back up, run a little, then cut off again. I had to repeat this process until I was able to get back home....a lot of coasting! New battery, fresh gas, plugs about 2 yrs. old. Any help is appreciated.

I have a 2003 Sportster 1200 and it just shuts down after about 10km. If I let it sit for ten or 15 minutes it’ll start again but I can only get 1/2 km up the road and it’ll shut down again. Could it be a coil. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Julie.

@hanoverdigger , Robert Brown ,Throw some new plugs in, check petcock not on reserve, fuel cap not venting(remove or loosen cap and try), clogged fuel filter/in tank strainer(remove and check/replace), faulty carb.(dirty/sticking float, accelerator pump bad, Rebuild and set carb. up), Vacuum leaks(with engine running-use starter fluid to spray around carb. flanges/vacuum lines), check plug wires(cracked/burnt/loose), bad ignition modules/coil, intermittent short in wiring/bad grounds, etc,etc.. Find 2 links below where you can down load the service manual from for free to help diagnose and repair your Sportster. If not comfortable diagnosing and working on your bike, have a good technician have a look, diagnose and estimate repair. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I talked with my mechanic and he thinks it may be a carb. problem. I'm sure he can take care of it.
