Pink and green lines during startup. Won't boot up

During my daily morning startup my laptop showed weird vertical pink and green lines. The apple logo starts loading but after that it shows a grey screen without the pink and green lines. Then it shuts down and restarts.

None of the key combinations like command+r or option+command+r+p work. They al just end up loading the apple logo and restarting again. So I cant do a hardware check or boot up in safe mode either.

My local repair man said it is probably the graphics card and that I'm essentially screwed because these parts aren't made anymore. He told me I could try a solution to fry the graphics card so the components would melt and reattach but that only sounds like extending its life for a couple of months and not a permanent solution.

Any ideas I could try before using my laptop as a fancy frisbee?

Thanks in adavance,

Ouch! Not good ;-} Your systems GPU logic has failed.

You'll need to try to find someone with the deeper diagnostic skills and micro soldering needed to repair the board (often you need to replace the tantalum caps) or replace the logic board.

Thanks for the response. Alright i'll try to look for a guy who can do this or replace the logic board.

I also saw this article from apple regarding faulty macbooks and video problems.

Not sure if this includes me but ill check it out.

This was for the newer 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models manufactured in 2011 system GPU issue. Is yours 2011? If so you have a chance!

Yes I have the macbook pro 17" early 2011. I'm gonna drop by the mac store today to check it out. Thanks for the help!
