Ultra Power Saving Mode & Touchwiz Home Screen Leaves Me In Limbo

I turned on Ultra Power Saving Mode. Then I hit my home button, and it asked me what home screen I wanted to use as the default. I accidentally hit "Touchwiz Home", and now I'm stuck.

My options under settings now are: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, Mobile Networks, Location, Sounds & Vibration, Brightness.

When I go to my Apps, the apps available are: AT&T Protect Plus, Calculator, Chrome, Contacts, MaaS360, Messages, Mobile Hotspot, Phone, Whatsapp.

On my home screen, I can hit "Edit", which lets me add apps to the main screen, or "Help". When I hit help, I get "Unfourtunately, TouchWiz easy home has stopped."

There is no where for me to get back to my normal home screen and normal apps. Or to turn of Ultra Power Saving Mode. Help. I really don't want to factory reset this phone.

I don't know what level of Android I'm using. But I'd guess it's the Verizon download from about 3-6 months ago.

Thx.

BTW. I've rebooted it several times. I booted it into Safe Mode, and it still doesn't give me options to get out of UPSM. I also connected it to a PC using a USB cord, and it's not even recognized as being connected.

Have you gone into full settings? I mean, did you swipe down, swipe down again then click the gear in the corner?

by

When I swipe down, I see only the time and a settings gear. Swiping down again does nothing. Hitting that Settings gear gives me only the settings I listed.

Same in safe mode? Do you mind if your phone is reset? You should be able to access photos here: https.photos.google.com

And contacts here:

https.contacts.google.com

A system reset is good for a phone once in a while. It should solve the problem.

I have text messages on the phone I don't want to lose. Resetting it will lose those, right?

Chosen Solution

I fixed it! Here's how I did it:

1) Downloaded Nova Launcher.apk on my MAC

2) Used bluetooth to send it to my phone.

3) Ran it on the phone.

4) Went into Nova Settings and changed the default launcher to the normal Samsung launcher.

5) From there I could easily turn off Ultra Power Saving Mode. :)

Thank you everyone who tried to help. I really appreciate it!

It's funny that ultra power saving mode gets stuck a lot even on other phones like Sony Xperia. I think I'll avoid using it on any phone so that I can actually use it properly.

How did you run it if you didn't have the downloads app?

Thanks Antonio!! I had the same issue, nowhere I took the phone could fix it, but this worked! So happy and grateful I found your post and you persisted and came up with a solution.

Are you able to access the Google Play store?

If yes you can download nova launcher then launch it after it is installed then set that as the default home screen launcher.

While it is a different home screen it should stop the error from popping up.

@benjamen50,

Nova launcher is good, but if you can't access your default launcher there is a problem to be fixed. It will be easy to fix this if full settings are available.

I can only access the Settings and Apps I listed. Thx.
