Ipads don't do HDMI, you need to buy a converter.
Earlier ipads use DP in the 30-pin connector. Lightning connector ipads are a joke. Regular Lightning connectors do not have the adequate bandwidth to output full HD signals, so instead a compressed video stream is transmitted over Lightning and the converter has to do video decompression and output as HDMI.
