changed the battery, says - cycles 0, replace now, fully charged

Hi

I have a problem with a new battery from eBay, that i put in a MacBook i just bought. Before I return it I want to check on this forum if there is anything I am missing. Status is:

- Can not run without power chord

- Battery percentage stuck at 97%, no discharge/charge

- Condition: replace now

- Says battery is charged, though light on chord is red

Battery info:

Can´t figure if its the battery or if its a possibility being a hardware issue. I just acquired it, and haven´t seen it function normally with a battery, as the previous one had the same behaviour, only it said 0% instead. Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks in advance

Try an SMC reset and NVRAM reset. If this doesn't work, you most likely have a bad battery.

Order another battery and try it out. If it is still doing this, it will be an issue with the battery sensing circuit, although I have not come across one which will cause it to say "replace now" if it is a good battery.

thanks for the response.

Ive tried resetting SMC and Nvram, but no change. That sounds good. Is the battery sensing circuit integrated to the logic board?

A lot of people mistaken the amber orange charging light on the magsafe charger as a red light.

It is most likely showing an amber light on the charger because if it was really red (flashing red) the Macbook would not receive power from the charger.

@big_bird yes, the battery sensing circuit is on the logic board. I think there is a control board in the battery which tells the Macbook the condition though (service battery, replace soon, replace now, etc), since I haven't come across a Macbook before which will say a good battery needs replacing, which ended up being a logic board fault.
