Battery replaced but won't hole charge

Hi! I used the ifixit repair guide to change my iphone battery over and it all went perfectly! as i turned it on i plugged it into a charger and the lightning bolt appeared to show it was in charging mode, but the battery continues to drain to 1 % and then won't charge up. I saw someone on another forum say that the metal on the guard holding the battery connection in place can drain the charge so put some insulation tape between this but had no luck.

any ideas guys?

What was wrong with the previous battery?

Sounds like either a bad charging port to me or U2 Tristar charging IC at worst which would be a board level micro soldering / component level repair to replace that chip.

False Alarm!

Thanks for the help Ben, i thought the first thing to do would be check the connections onto the board, i lifted them off and replaced them and it seems to be working fine now!

Oh yeah I wanted to also note you may want to transfer the grey foam from the old battery it really helps keep the battery connected into place.

New batteries pretty much 90% of the time don't come with them.
